RESEARCH PROJECT ::
People Centred Innovation with Base of the Pyramid
- What is the difference between doing people centred innovation in an industrialized context and in a base of the pyramid context?
- What are the challenges of (Danish) companies when engaging in innovation with BOP?
- Can we sketch a methodological framework for people centred innovation with BOP?
These were the key questions for the practice based research and development project that Louise Koch conducted in 2008/2009 in collaboration with NFBi Network for Research Based Userdriven Innovation and SPIRE Research Center for Participatory Innovation in Denmark.
The research was based on literature review, interviews with BOP practitioners from different fields, and action based research in the BOP innovation project with Danisco A/S.
The literature review focused on the existing methods for BOP innovation and the existing methodologies from user centred innovation, coupled with research into the fields of participatory development, cultural intelligence and open innovation.
The interviews with different practitioners from business, consultancy, academics and governmental organisations inquired into the challenges, opportunities, and experiences in innovation with Base of the Pyramid.
Finally, the case-project with Danisco formed the ground for a practice based insight into the do's an dont's of people centred innovation with BOP.
The outcome of the project can be found under INSPIRATION
on this website, where you can find overview of the BOP field, the BOP Innovation reading list, and the case-description of the project. In time, more material and publications will be added. Enjoy!
